Love of Learning New Things!

It’s Back to School week! Yippee! While we get our children young and old ready with new school supplies, clothes, and backpacks, it got me reminiscing about my school days. I loved the smell of new books, and sharpened pencils. When I close my eyes, I can still smell them! Of course, I was a bit nervous about who my teachers and classmates would be, but this is part of beginnings. There is always some jitters about the unfamiliar. During our school years, we discover a lot about ourselves, our likes, our passions, our aspirations, and have grand ideas about our futures…. BUT, it doesn’t always go according to plan, does it!

You may wake up one day working in a job that leaves you completely uninspired and lost. Where did the dream go? Is this all there is? We all know that life happens… We may have put our career on hold to raise a family, or tend to an ill family member. Perhaps the funds were nonexistent so we gave up our dream of being an actor and took a job for the paycheck instead. However, you have the power to make choices that can change your path at any moment! How can we do that? Learn something new!

Start with what peaks your interest! Here are some ideas from A to Z: Aromatherapy, baking, calligraphy, design, embroidery, film making, gardening, hip-hop, improv, jazz, kayaking, languages, magic, nutrition, opera, photography, quilt-making, rowing, singing, tapas, ukulele, video games, wine making, xylophone, yoga, zumba.

Maybe you will commit to starting a university program, or enroll in a one day course. The important this is to begin exploring new avenues of interest that may lead you down a journey you never thought possible! Perhaps you take a spinning class and love it so much you decide to became an instructor and mega fitness guru. Or you sign up for cooking class which leads you to attend Le Cordon Bleu chef school in Paris. A friend introduces you to pottery, or soap making and you make a full-time career out of it. You take some acting classes which leads to you auditioning and getting the lead role in a movie! Anything is possible…

Where to look for learning opportunities?

  • College and Universities programs
  • Library books & magazines
  • Online course such as Udemy on various topics
  • Community newspapers
  • YouTube

I get really excited about all the knowledge that is available out there. We just have to be receptive to new ideas and learning opportunities which can enhance our lives. Let’s open our books, sharpen our pencils and begin our love of learning new things!

Learning can be positively Lit With Joy! 🔥
